In this section we will highlight some of the information we have, regarding yards that may not look to have great strike rates at some courses until you delve a little further into the specifics of their runners to find profitable angles. Some are the big yards and some of the best are the smaller less well known training outfits. We present this in an easy course to course guide for easy searching for a days racing. Couple this information with the calendar watch for a deadly selection tool Although this information is generally available throughout various outlets, we have done a lot of the work in sifting through all the information to discover some of the nuggets that form part of our selection processes. We are only presenting just a snippet of the information here for public use. If it helps your selection process all the better, but of course if you want the very best information for less than £2 per day, we can supply you with our very best selections for each days racing or if you prefer just a few days information when the 'big meetings' are on with our FESTIVAL SPECIALS packages, we can cover it all. NATIONAL HUNT
PETER BOWEN sends few runners to Aintree, but when he does, they are worth taking a look at, and in particular his novices. On the other hand his handicap chasers have a woeful record here, which bring his overall figures down to a level that is just under the radar. Now you know which ones to follow and which to swerve!
Another course where novices from certain yards have a good record. P J HOBBS is a trainer who you might not take a second look at with a 10% strike rate at this course. In fact, if you had followed just his handicap chasers you would be rather upset to have not had a winner in the last 6 seasons. Follow his Novice Chasers however and you would find yourself with a strike rate of just under 50% over the 6 years. Information that is not so easy to track down.
There are several trends at this Scottish course. Look out for J H JOHNSON & PAUL NICHOLS with novice hurdlers - NICKY RICHARDS with novice chasers, and if your bag is more the handicap races, look no further than FERDY MURPHY over the bigger obstacles
Many differing yards to follow on various codes of race. Too many to highlight in one go. Plus we don't want to give away too much ;-) - Take note of HEATHER DALTON running handicap chasers however, and things would have been very rosy indeed from a decent sized sample over the last 6 years.
Once again, several angles for exploitation here, but take the hint when DAVID PIPE takes his box all the way up the West Coast to Carlisle. He has done so, just four times in his short trainer career following his fathers success, and on each of the four occasions he has had returns. A 100% record from 4 runners so far.
Not many meetings here at Cartmel, but some nice little figures. D BURCHELL is one to follow in Handicap Chases. C J MANN is another to keep an eye out for, he doesn't often appear there, but when he does his Novice Hurdlers are worth interest
This dual purpose course does not have many trends associated to it as far as trainer are concerned but NICKY RICHARDS in Handicaps would have produced some nice profits over the years
This course has different trends at different times of the year. We never fail to have a good festival, but there are plenty more opportunities throughout the season to find some angles. The big yards of course do well, but its hard to make profits from them. No massive strike rates to mention other than E BOLGER, but most of that has been built up from one horse, I'm sure you know who that is!
Another dual purpose course. When the jumps are in play, there are many yards with specific success rates, and we have found Chepstow to be quite profitable in the past for us. In Chases, PAUL NICHOLS of course has to feature especially with his Novices, whilst in the handicap rank, the less well known D P KEANE has been cleaning up over the years. Hurdlers? Two Words - ALAN KING
This course was not used whilst redevelopment was ongoing throughout 2006-2007, so there are one year of missing figures, but they stack the same in any case. JONJO O'NEIL loves the place especially hurdlers, whilst TIM EASTERBY has scooped a few bumpers in the past
DAVID PIPE has had a modicum of success at the West Country track with a limited number of runners thus far, but you can be sure that this course will be the source of many winners for him over the years. Unfortunately, being relatively local, his runners will have big support, sometimes going off undervalued, which makes it necessary to find a profitable angle from them, avoid any of his hurdlers and you wont go far wrong.
This quirky little box shaped course is undulating with a long up hill run in. Trainer know this and try to take advantage with horses they know can handle it. Look out for the A G BLACKMORE yard who has targeted this track with hurdlers frequently.
Lots of high strike rates at the South Coast course. Avoid NICKY HENDERSON'S chasers and back all his others, and you would have been scoring with every other bet over the years with good profits too!
Another quirky little track, and possibly one of the best for watching the races if you fancy a day out. The East Sussex track is a figure of eight, so runner have to go both left and right handed round here. Local trainer G L MOORE will always be followed but as such prices are tight, and although leading trainer, you will find it difficult to come out on top. Better to look elsewhere, and the big boys do well, ALAN KING with his Novices and PAUL NICHOLS likewise.
MRS L WADHAM may not be a name that comes to mind at first, but check her hurdlers here. You should still be able to get some good price from this little know trainer.
Novice hurdles are dominated by the likes of NICKY HENDERSON, DAVID PIPE, and NOEL CHANCE, from his limited entries. Handicap Hurdle races look to be a minefield are probably better sourced from the form book, whilst the Handicap chases ALAN KING & EVAN WILLIAMS hold a good hand
The first thing that strike me about Hexham is the record of ALAN SWINBANKS' bumper performers. He has amazing success here so should always be noted when running. LENNY LUNGO is one of the top trainers as far as winners goes and has a good Level stakes profits across all his runners, the preference is probably for his hurdlers here. P. HASLAM and MICKY HAMMOND should also be noted when running hurdlers too. As far as Chasers go, nothing of real stand out quality, but glance at JJ QUINN when he brings one of his few here.
Plenty of pointers for Huntingdon. NICKY HENDERSON appears again here with a good overall strike rate and healthy level stakes profit. As does D CANTILLON from far fewer runners. There are a host of healthy strike rates in particular codes here too. PHILLIP HOBBS novice chasers, VENETIA WILLIAMS finally gets a positive tilt with her handicap chasers here too! And 3 further trainers who don't have many runners here appear with amazing strike rates, C.R.EGERTON, R.FORD & J R FANSHAW appear with higher than average figures. Not many runners but well worth consideration if past performance is anything to go by
Have a look at the Novice chasers from the respective yards of T.D.EASTERBY & J M JEFFERSON. Whilst the relatively unknown yard of S J MARSHALL would have given us handsome returns had we followed their hunter chasers.
OLLIE SHERWOOD is to noted when taking runners to Leicester. Especially Novice hurdlers. And DAVID PIPES' first season produced a good return. K BISHOP, another who entries should be scanned at any price given the returns
ROBERT ALNER and his team head the figures at Lingfield, hurdlers in particular, they have been short in returning sp's, but have nevertheless done the business. Look also for NICK WILLIAMS and ALAN KING with handicappers here.
Nicky Henderson is one to watch in Bumpers here at Ludlow, big strike rate and even bigger Level Stakes Profit! Only one sticks out with chasers, Ollie Sherwood in handicaps is the one to look out for. Nothing in particular catches the eye with hurdle races.
Super Sue Smith is high up the top trainers list for Market Rasen, and clear at the top strike rate wise for Novice Chasers, in fact if you had followed all her runners over the last 5 years you would be nicely in pocket, likewise you would be in the same position with Peter Bowen, in fact if you followed his Novice hurdlers here too, you would have an even bigger smile. Nigel Twiston-Davies for handicap chasers here
Lenny Lungo is not far from home here, also J H Johnson, keep an eye on both these yards Novice Chasers here at this dual purpose track. Novice hurdlers? Look no further than JJ QUINN
Big Course, big meetings mean very competitive racing. As such there are very few eye-catching figures to concentrate on. The only thing that jumps out at me is in fact Jonjo O Neill with Bumpers!
Another dual purpose course. No specific from here though, but if you looking for someone with a good overall record at the course T P Tate would have looked after you over the years.
Down to the West Country, a lovely course, and looking for West Country trainers is probably the best bet. David Pipe will have many runners down here of course, EVAN WILLIAMS. avoid his novice hurdlers, but follow the handicappers, he places these shrewdly
Lots and lots of good looking figures here at Perth. Nicky Richards has a very good record with Novice chasers, as does T R George, J S Goldie & P J Hobbs with his few runners. T R George has a great record across the board in fact and should be followed with the exception of his novice hurdlers, in that code Nigel Twiston Davies is a great alternative, keep an eye on his bumpers as always too! Paul Nichols doesn't bring many up to Perth, but they generally mean business when they run, prices will usually be skinny though so be careful.
Back down south now and to Plumpton. Bumpers first and one name to spot G L Moore, better than 1 in 2 in recent years make him a serious contender with any entries, Novice hurdlers are sent out to win by Nicky Henderson, and Emma Lavelle appears here in this code too with another enviable record. Chasers - Venetia Williams and Paul Nicholls followers would have found themselves leaving Plumpton with Plump pockets!
Paul Nicholls head the list here, but be careful, he has a bad record with handicap chasers whilst just about the best with Novices in the code. For the handicaps P R Chamings is a better bet from his few runners. P R Webber seems to not win with anything but bumper runners.
I like this jumps course, it can be incredibly testing when it gets very wet. Evan Williams knows this as well as anyone and has a great overall record from limited entries, as does C R Egerton. For a particular angle its obvious but worth pointing out Alan Swinbank plops his bumpers in round here will good regularity
In Shakepears country Colin Tinkler has landed a few good priced winners, whilst Alison Thorpe is worth a mention with Handicap Chasers, Peter Bowen for the Novices
Just down the road from Newton Abbot we have the coast and Torquay. Alan King takes his yard westwards and scores with good regularity with Novice chasers. Emma Lavelle gets a mention here with Handicap chasers, whilst Bumpers have the very shrewd J A B Old looking after you
A course for dour stayers. Some trainers take advantage of this testing course and uphill finish for their stamina packed runners. Venetia Williams uses this course with much success, as does Jonjo O Neill with his chasers, Mrs C Bailey will look after you in the infrequent hunter chases at the course., Brendan Powell for your bumper runners
Lots of things stick out at Uttox. Venetia Williams sits top of the pile across the board for winners and would have seen you in profit over the years, to accentuate that profit Novice hurdlers would have been very nice. Hobbs, Nicholls and Victor Dartnell for novice hurdlers are a good group, whilst the latter has almost a 1 in 2 strike rate across the board. T R George appears again with Novice chasers.
Alan King is better than 1 in 2 with novice chasers here, and Jonjo O Neill with Bumpers. Other than these two angles, little else catches the eye.
Novice Hurdlers - P C Haslam makes the list along with A W Carroll and Alan King, G M Moore and Micky Hammond with Novice chasers
There are many trainers to follow with Novice Chasers at Wincanton. Paul Nicholls heads the list although profits would have been skinny, better in that area would have been Henrietta Knight with limited runners, Handicap chases entered by David pipe and Dr J R J Naylor are two to look for. Paul Nicholls also has a good record with bumpers down here
Paul Nicholls once again as leading trainer appears here, and this one track where his level stakes profit have been quite nice, look out also for T R George across all codes as well as Nick Williams with novice hurdlers and H D Daly with bumper runners. Here's hoping this guide helps you identify winners throughout the year long National hunt season. Coupled with the Calendar watch we believe this will be a very helpful tool.
